FAQ: What makes an effective logo?
The best logos are simple. The "fancier"
or "busier" the logo, the more difficult it is to translate into the
various incarnations that logos have to comply with (i.e., Web,
process, silk screening, embroidery, etc.).
Good rules of thumb in logo
design are:
-
The simpler the better.
Complex logos don't resize clearly.
-
The relative sizes of
objects-to-words should be proportional.
-
Special effects - such as
shadows and graduated screens - do not translate well with
applications that cannot tolerate their complexity.
-
Your logo should communicate
the attitude and style of your business (i.e., conservative,
professional, exact, whimsical, casual, playful,
etc.).
-
Your logo cannot carry your
entire brand image ... it should be a memorable reflection of
your core philosophy.
