12 Top Tips For TikTok

Will TikTok be banned in the near future? Who’s to say. But we’re here to give you the top tips for TikTok that will translate (or transfer) to your other social media platforms (you know, just in case). TikTok is an incredible app for building brand awareness, collaborating with influencers, and helping small companies go viral. Here’s how to leverage the best of TikTok while bolstering your other social media platforms as well.

Media À La Carte’s 12 Top Tips For Tik Tok

1. Understand your audience

This rings true for all social media platforms and we’ve said it a million times. It’s so important to understand your target audience’s demographics and psychographics so you can create content geared towards their preferences.

2. Be authentic and creative

It’s important to be yourself on every platform that your brand is on. Don’t put on a different persona just because TikTok skews younger. If your audience is on TikTok and you’re producing content that they’d deem valuable, they’ll find you.

3. Leverage trends and challenges

TikTok is all about sharing trends and challenges. Hop on those (that make sense for your brand) and join a greater community of creators. This is also a great way to get noticed by new audiences.

4. Create engaging content

Utilize storytelling, humor, and creativity to create valuable, meaningful content for your followers. Add value with how-to videos, behind-the-scenes looks, and more. Give viewers a reason to comment (i.e. ask a question or create a prompt).

5. Be consistent

TikTok favors accounts that post consistently. That can mean up to several times a day (if you can manage it). We’d recommend aiming to post at least 2-3 times per week. Posting at optimal times can also help increase engagement on TikTok. Use your analytics to determine the best times to post.

6. Interact with your audience

We always say it: social media is social. Respond to comments, stitch tagged videos, and interact as a user in your own right. You can also respond to comments with new videos.

7. Use hashtags wisely

TikTok prefers fewer hashtags than apps like Instagram. Go for just 2-3 that really align with whatever your video is highlighting. A lot of users mistag their content in the hopes that it’ll boost viewership. This just makes things messy.

8. Collaborate with others

Partner with influencers and other brands to build credibility and increase brand awareness.

9. Measure and learn

Use TikTok’s analytics tools to see what content is resonating with your audience. Have this data shape your future strategy.

10. Stay up-to-date

TikTok trends, sounds, and challenges move pretty quickly. Don’t get left in the dust by posting a dance trend that was popular a whole month ago. Stay on top of the latest trends and implement them into your strategy in a timely manner.

11. Experiment and innovate

Don’t be afraid to try something different and see how it lands. What works best for your brand might be different than what works best for others. Try out different TikTok features and tools. There’s a lot to learn from. Take the leap and get creative!

12. Save your content

It looks like TikTok might not be around forever (at least, not in the United States). It’s a good idea to save all of your content in a folder outside of TikTok in case you want to share it on other platforms in the future.
