How Instagram is Changing the Way We Shop

If you’ve ever been tired of heading to someone’s “link in bio” to purchase their product, the solution is here. Instagram Checkout is streamlining the way we buy via social media. The entire buying transaction can now happen in the app.


Shoppable posts will feature a small icon in the bottom left of the photo that says “View Products”. When you click on that icon, you are taken to a page that features all the products in the photo. After clicking on the product you want, you are taken to a page that lets you add it to your Instagram Checkout cart.



After filling out your payment, shipping, and billing information once, you are ready to shop from any company that has opted into Instagram Checkout. Get this - companies can even add a shoppable sticker in their Instagram Stories as well. The sticker will take you through the same simple checkout process.


If you have a product you promote on Instagram, it’s time for you to consider the pros and cons of joining Instagram Checkout. After a customer experiences the ease of buying in the app, they may not want to go through the process of heading to your website anymore. But be aware that Instagram will be taking a 5% processing fee, or a flat rate of $0.40 for any purchase of $8.00 or less. The beauty is that you can still take advantage of both ways to sell - “link in bio” and Instagram Checkout.
